13 Saad Healthcare Professionals Certified as Lymphedema Therapists

September 04, 2017

Saad Healthcare is pleased to announce that we now have 13 healthcare professional who are Certified Lymphedema Therapists (CLTs) through the Lymphology Association of North America (LANA®). They have completed a 135-hour course offered by the Academy of Lymphatic Studies (ACOLS), which has pioneered research-based lymphedema training in the United States.

Lymphedema is an accumulation of protein-rich fluid in the superficial tissues that results from an impaired flow from the lymphatic system. Symptoms of lymphedema include swelling in one or more extremities. The swelling may range from mild to severe and disfiguring. Lymphedema has important pathological and clinical consequences for the patient if left untreated. Primary lymphedema is present at birth; secondary lymphedema develops as a result of damage to or dysfunction of the lymphatic system. Breast cancer treatment is the most common cause of secondary lymphedema in the United States. While there is no cure for lymphedema, treatment can be important in reducing the swelling and discomfort.

Our CLTs are trained in Complete Decongestive Therapy (CDT) and the management of lymphedema affecting a variety of peripheral body parts. They have studied the anatomy, physiology and pathology of the lymphatic system; pediatric lymphedema; head/neck and genital lymphedema; bandaging techniques; decongestive exercises; measuring techniques for edema; measuring techniques for compression garments; teaching home maintenance and self-treatment to lymphedema patients; hygienic skin and nail care for lymphedema; indications and contraindications for CDT; and insurance issues for lymphedema therapy. Our therapists are able to establish an individualized plan of treatment for persons with chronic extremity lymphedema and related conditions and implement the treatment plan accordingly.

If you or a loved one suffer from lymphedema, or if you are a physician with patients who have this condition, please let Saad Healthcare show you how our supportive, attentive staff can help ease the burdens of lymphedema, all with a compassionate, caring attitude!
